The Logos USIM is based on the Logos Multi Application, Multi Verification UICC platform. The feature rich Logos UICC platform has support for up to four Logical Channels, improved Access Condition flexibility based on Security Attributes in Compact, Referenced or Expanded Format, and the support for Data Oriented Commands allowing BER-TLV structured files on the USIM to be arbitrarily large - only limited by the available EEPROM of the chip. The Logos Multi Application UICC allows co-existence of several smart card applications on the same card. All Logos USIM products include a SIM application as well as a USIM application. This ensures that the Logos USIM is compatible with both 2G and 3G handsets. The open architecture of the Logos UICC makes it possible to extend the product with additional applications - e.g. R-UIM for roaming on CDMA networks or WIM for authentication in WAP applications.
The SIM and USIM applications implement shared access to essential subscriber data, such as the phone book. With the Logos USIM, the subscriber will always have access to his contact lists independent of whether the SIM or the USIM application is active. The limitation on the number of entries in the phonebook, imposed by the GSM standards, has also been removed in the Logos USIM. The Logos USIM products support the Milenage authentication algorithm for 3G authentication. Also, all Logos USIM products support the GSM conversion function that ensures that the USIM can be used in any combination of 2G/3G handsets and networks. Rapid development of test samples is easy using the PC based Logos USIM Desktop Personalizer tool. Support for Remote File Management (RFM) allows the operator secure and flexible management of USIM cards already in the field. In addition to the fundamental USIM product, a range of higher end USIM products are available from Logos.
The Java powered Logos USIM products are continuously updated to implement the latest specifications from Oracle and Global Platform. The Logos USIM products provide an open interface to Value Added Services based on the Java Card virtual machine and 3GSM USAT. In addition to Release 6 of the Java (U)SIM toolkit API, also Release 5 of the Java SIM toolkit API is supported for backwards compatibility with 2G Java Applets. Similar to the Logos SIM products, Logos USIM supports a flexible partitioning of the available EEPROM space for Java Applets and the 3GSM file system respectively. This way Logos USIM Java offers the optimal memory utilization. Logos USIM implements enhanced cryptography support, including algorithms such as AES and RSA. In addition to interoperability and the numerous other well-known advantages of Java based SIM cards, the Logos USIM products include support for Remote Method Invocation (RMI), allowing applications in the handset to utilize applets on the Java USIM for security and trust services as well as Digital Rights Management (DRM).
Combining the strengths of Java Card and WIB
, the Logos USIM is a powerful, versatile product that enables e.g. the development of WIB plug-ins in Java. In addition to the rapid WIB plug-in development using the Java platform, the operator can manage the plug-ins using the vast features of the worldwide Global Platform standard. The Logos USIM products also support the activation of WIB scripts from USIM Java applets. Features not supported in WIB 1.3 can be implemented in Java.
